Garry Glitter claims ill health when boarding for Britain
Posted on: August 21st, 2008 by Emily PenbrynGarry Glitter, 64 year old ex Rock Star, claimed he was having a heart attack when the time came to board his flight back to Britain. He refused to board the aircraft and insisted on being transported to a nearby hospital.
For many hours on Tuesday night, Garry Glitter, real name Paul Gadd, had to wait while officials from Thailand and Britain tired to pacify his situation. Staff from the British Embassy tried to persuade him to get on board the London jet while Thai officials and senior immigration denied him entry to their country. Both the Thai and British officials had to relinquish their efforts after Glitter alleged that he was having a heart attack.
Garry Glitter had flown from Ho Chi Minch city in Vietnam to Bangkok airport the previous day after serving 2 years and 3 months in a Vietnamese prison for child abuse. The convicted pedophile refused to board his London flight following the first leg of his journey. The disgraced pop star stayed in a VIP transit room for the night in Bangkok airport before making his way to the departure gate the following day.
Garry Glitter has been told by Thai officials that he is not welcome in Thailand and will be forced to fly back to London this evening. A Thai Immigration official stated that Glitter could legally remain in the country for a further 12 hours; this deadline passed at 10.15am Thai time. Thai authorities have announced they will deport Glitter as soon as possible in spite of his recent health claims.
Thai police made a statement saying that ‘We are barring entry to Paul Francis Gadd and will be deporting him to his home country, England, unconditionally and even if he does not wish to board the plane,’
Garry Glitter claimed he was having a heart attack which was diagnosed as Costochondritis by a Thai doctor later that day. This is inflamed ribs, which cause chest pains. A Thai doctor has provided him with painkillers and confirmed that he is well enough to fly.
The convicted pedophile served 2 months in Bristol prison in 1999 for having child pornography on his computer. He was also permanently barred from Cambodia in 2002 for alleged child abuse. He has just finished serving his sentence in Vietnam for abusing 2 girls, aged 10 and 11.
On the first leg of his journey back to Britain, Glitter is reported to have told The Sun that he is “not worried at all about coming home to England. Why would I be? I’m an innocent man. I think people realise that. I think I’ll be made welcome.” During his Vietnam - Thailand flight Garry Glitter claimed his innocence; he stated that he plans to write a book and during his time inside he has prepared the book that will prove his innocence.
