Jetstar Asia Aircraft Slides on Wet Runway
Posted on: August 26th, 2008 by Tanya DuttnelOne of Jetstar Asias’s aircrafts, a sister airline to Jetstar Airways, slid partially off of a runway at an airport in Cambodia as it landed in wet weather, causing it to damage two tyres. The flight to Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport from Singapore was carrying 144 passengers and landed while it was raining on last Thursday morning. Reports say that the fuselage of the plane scraped the ground also during the landing. A spokesman for Jetstar Asia said that there is an investigation being carried out currently. The aircraft landed with the weather being heavy, he continued, and the plane slid to the runway’s edge. He also stated that there wasn’t any permanent damage done to the plane and none of the passengers were injured during the incident.
During an inspection over the aircraft, two tyres were found with damage and mud was found on the fuselage of the plane. All of the passengers left the aircraft as they normally would, according to the carrier. The A320 was set to make a flight back to Singapore on Friday. A reader of News.com.au said that the aircraft went off the runway, blew one of its tyres, and slid across the ground. Another reader said that the carrier gave him accommodations at a motel during the time that they were organizing another flight. He said that they were told that the technical difficulties caused the cancellation to last for a whole 24 hours. The spokesman for the airline said that all of the passengers were put on a later flight.
