Boxer to Plead Not Guilty for Drug and Firearm Charges found at Perth Airport
Posted on: August 27th, 2008 by Tanya DuttnelCraig Christian, a boxer, plans on pleading not guilty for firearm and drug charges, following his arrest at the Perth Airport last week. Mr. Christian was not made to give a plea at his appearance before the Perth Magistrate’s Court, being charged with possession of drugs and a firearm.
Police allege that he arrived at the terminal in Perth Airport around 11:00 in the morning on Tuesday of last week, where Mr. Christian planned to board on a Sydney flight. The security staff alleges that they saw something suspicious, believing it to be a weapon, when his baggage was x-rayed. The Australian Federal Police was called to do a search of the bag. It is alleged that the officers found a pistol (semi-automatic) and a magazine that was loaded with seven ammunition rounds, a holster for the shoulder, a toiletries bag containing methamphetamine, and large sum of cash.
Gang Crime and Organized Crime Squad Officers, as well as the Dog Squad, carried out simultaneous searches in 2 houses in Stirling and Balcatta. Mr. Christian failed to show up in court on Friday when he was due to show, because he left for Sydney to be a trainer to Cool Willie Kicket, a boxer competing in a bout, according to what the court heard. Laurie Levy, Christian’s lawyer, said that the defendant will plead not guilty on the charges. Outside of the court, he confirmed his plea, wearing jeans and a t-shirt. He said that he is not guilty and will prove that in court. He is bailed to reappear before the court on the 16th of September.
